Sarah Rees
You are a warrior, fighting the good fight, bruised by battle but not willing to give up. You lay your armor down at night to rest and recharge, but you put it on again each morning to shield from the feelings of failure as a mom, dad, spouse, or even friend.
Being a parent is hard, yet rewarding at the same time. You love to laugh and play with your child, but you don’t have many moments like those anymore. You feel exhausted and defeated searching for the answer. You’ve done all the self-help research you can, and you’re needing personal guidance. That’s where I come in!
I am an expert in managing child meltdowns, school expulsions, teen drama, and more. I will be your parent guru in helping you connect with your child so you become your child’s go-to parent to help heal the hurts and rejoice the triumphs. My office in Plano, TX will be your one hour of peace and solitude while your child receives the extra support they need, so you can focus on being your best parent and self.
Here you will receive an environment where you and your child feel safe, accepted, and genuinely cared about. Together, we will create a foundation where self-exploration, and implementation of lasting positive change can occur. Your family will be supported along your child’s journey in working through life’s toughest moments and implementing new strategies to be successful.
Each child, young or old, is unique. That’s why I tailor my approach to best fit your child or teen. My specialty and expertise in Play Therapy is geared for kiddos aged 2-10. This is where a child learns best in a room full of toys and games. The “tweens” and teens in counseling typically feel most comfortable utilizing games, art, and sand to connect with their thoughts and feelings. I also utilize EMDR therapy when children and teens begin to feel stuck in their healing process.
Most importantly, you are part of the process. You will receive an all encompassing approach to counseling at Brave Space. You will learn tools for discipline and strategies to help your child manage their emotions, allowing them to better communicate their needs with you. Throughout your child’s individual therapy process, you will meet with me every 4-5 sessions to collaborate and continue evaluating your child’s treatment plan. I believe collaboration with not only parents, but caregivers, teachers, and doctors are also vital to your child’s growth.
I have extensive training from the world-renowned Center for Play Therapy at the University of North Texas, where I obtained my graduate degree in counseling. I also have an undergraduate psychology degree from Texas Christian University, making me knowledgeable in child psychology and child development. I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association, Association for Play Therapy, and EMDR International Association. I am also proud to have served in leadership roles as both Secretary and President for the North Texas Chapter of the Texas Association for Play Therapy. Being involved in the Play Therapy community keeps me up to date with the most recent research and techniques to serve families with the best quality care.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and extremely noisy kitty. I love being in the sunshine and in the water (pools and beaches are my jam!), but also enjoy my quiet time cozied up with a book or watching my favorite crime drama tv shows. I grew up as a band kid, traveling with the TCU Horned Frog Marching Band exploring nature, cities, and life – where I met my closest friends.
